How the BLEEP did that happen?! - Episode 8
[I recommend going in numerical order with the Episodes. They build on each other.]
Episode 30 contains the full resource list.
During the shaky process of me trying to make sense of everything, I was told about the film "Holy Hell". I looked at the poster and thought to myself: "Not sure I want to watch some new-age mumbo jumbo". Boy was I wrong. This film created one of my biggest AHA's ever!
The film was made by an amazing and deeply sensitive filmmaker, Will Allen.
"For 22 years, Will Allen immersed himself 24/7 in Buddhafield, a Los Angeles cult with hundreds of members and a narcissistic, sociopathic leader named Michel Rostand. The group would live, work and meditate together, banishing all ties to their family in the hope of finding greater enlightenment. Their spiritual guru would, in turn, psychologically torture and brainwash his disciples on a daily basis."
- Rolling Stone
I now count Will Allen as a dear friend in my life. Our journey has remarkable similarities and I found him to be not only a great artist, but someone who has searched the corners of his soul to understand himself. His personal experiences and realizations were shocking and soul shattering. I can completely relate....
When I sat down to watch his film, I was stunned! I wept....
It matched so many of my experiences and provided profound revelations for me. There are a number of Films and Television Series I will recommend, but PLEASE, start with "Holy Hell".
Sundance 2016 Official Selection. Just out of college, a young filmmaker joins a loving, secretive, and spiritual community led by a charismatic teacher in 1980s West Hollywood. Twenty years later, the group is shockingly torn apart.
